Mary E. Marta ASHTABULA- Mary Edna Marta, 97, passed away on Tuesday April 12, 2022. The daughter of John I. and Edna J. (Shrum) Harr, Mary was born on May 3, 1924 in Latrobe Pennsylvania. As a child her family moved to Conneaut and Mary graduated from Conneaut St. Mary High School. Mary was given the nickname ”Snowie” because of her light hair; she enjoyed her nickname it brought a smile to her face. Mary was a devout member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, she attended both St. Joseph and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel where she attended mass daily. Mary was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and Our Ladies of Blue Army. Mary and John Marta were married June 9, 1971, their marriage was one of love and mutual admiration. John and Mary met over a cup of coffee at Sears where they were both employed. For forty- six years they were each other’s best friend, the memories that were created during their marriage gave Mary strength to continue. Mary was employed with Sears and Roebuck as the credit sales manager for twenty-nine years. She was precise and very detail oriented. A creature of habit each morning Mary would attend Mass and have breakfast at Lake Way Restaurant. She had her own table and was so loved by Dave, Jerry and the entire staff. She was treated a beloved family member. Mary and John travel through Europe visiting, Our Lady of Fatima, Portugal, St. Peter’s Basilica and taking the Alpine Tour. Never ones to sit still they played golf, tennis and bicycled. They also found time to take the Northeast Canadian Tour. Mary also crocheted and ice skated, she said her rosary daily which gave her comfort and peace. Mary is survived by her sisters Catherine Ann Gaynor of Ashtabula and Susanne ( Ronald) Coxon, of Kingsville; nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, Bonnie, Maureen, Tina, Steve, Curt, Mark, Jeff and Chris; great nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband John Marta, December 14, 2017; siblings, Martha L. (Edward) Miller and J. Warren Harr; niece Sheila Coxon. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11AM on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Mt. Carmel Church Our Lady of Peace Parish, 1200 East 21st Street, Ashtabula, Ohio. Rev. Raymond Thomas presiding. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. A calling hour will be observed from 10AM until 11AM at the church Monday, April 18, 2022. If desired contributions to St. Vincent DePaul Society in care of St. Joseph Church, 3312 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004. Mary’s family would like to thank the staff of Ashtabula County Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for the loving and gentle care shown to Mary and her family.
