Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ashtabula -Patricia Ann (Dunick) Hanson ,75, passed away on Monday April 18th, 2022, with her daughters at her side, while a patient at Ashtabula County Medical Center. Born December 27, 1946, in Ashtabula, Pattie is the daughter of the late Albert Dunick and Vera(Terrill) Dunick. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School Class of 1964 and remained in contact with fellow classmates. She enjoyed going to lunch and spending time with longtime friends Peggie Sonstien and MaryAnn Nemitz Weema. She married the love of her life, Jim Hanson on December 11,1970. Jim passed away on April 22,2020. Pattie was a member of the VFW Post #943 in Ashtabula and was a supporter of Wounded Warriors. Pattie worked at the Ashtabula Star Beacon approximately 40 years alongside her late husband Jim Hanson, who also worked there 50 plus years. They spent their whole career life employed at the Star-Beacon, together always, committed to each other, and happy. A valuable and dedicated employee Pattie left a legacy of striving to do her best with whatever task was set before her. She worked in the darkroom for many years and loved working with the Big Camera in the graphics department; at the end of her career, she prepared obituaries. She did the impossible proofing, revising, and correcting errors that were done all over the phone back then. She assisted many funeral directors over the years and was greatly appreciated for her efforts. Pattie was a fighter at an early age ,she was able to overcome Crohn's disease in her twenties and no matter how sick she was, she was always determined and stayed strong. Pattie was a breast cancer survivor; through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly looked like. A devoted wife and loving mother she always put family first. Pattie and Jim loved taking short trips in the car with family that didn’t cost a lot of money. She enjoyed sewing at a young age and spent many hours sewing clothing for her two daughters (Beverly and Michelle). She volunteered as a 4-H advisor and set up displays at the county fairs in Jefferson with her 4H troop and children. She was a big supporter of the Harbor High School Band where she volunteered and took charge of uniforms for a few years. Her family was especially important to her, and she took many trips with her grandchildren Jeffery and Jennifer, who are the children of her first daughter Beverly. She loved spending time with them and always helped make sure they were provided for. Pattie and Jim took many road trips to flea markets all over Ohio. Jim would affectionately tease her about how slow she would walk through the sales not missing anything along the way. He would say she’s doing the “Pattie Shuffle” again. She would just laugh and tell Jim he walked too fast, and his legs were longer. Pattie loved to find bargains and as always, Jim would buy her anything her heart desired. As great grandchildren came into the picture Jim and Pattie stepped up, always having them over for food and fun and occasionally started taking them to garage sales and treating them to Chuck E Cheese with family. Pattie is survived by her children Beverly (Sprinkle) Kehres and Michelle (Greg) Mitcham; grandchildren, Jeffery(Katie) Baker, Jennifer Baker, Morgan, Samantha, and AIden Mitcham; great-grandchildren, Maylea, JJ, Daijah, Jaycuan, Lavaisha, Mercedes, Emileigha, Lincoln, Leontae, Kayleigh, Garrett and Keeley; brothers, Albert(Carol) Dunick Jr, and John (Cheyenne) Dunick; and sister Diana(Michael) Cummins. Pattie was preceded in death by her husband Jim Hanson; son, Michael Hanson; her parents, Albert and Vera Dunick and stepfather, Cosmo Coccitto. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30th, 2022, at 11 A.M at Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula.
