Obituary of Dixie Ann Bateman

Dixie peacefully went to be with the Lord on Saturday April 30, 2022, at Saybrook Landing Health and Rehab Center under the care of Bella Care Hospice. She was born on April 1, 1944, in Madison to Wayne and Betty (Jones) Harrison. Dixie lived in Ashtabula, Ohio. Dixie was a factory worker for many years at Rockwell and MFG companies and retired due to an injury from MFG. She loved to sew, crochet, play piano and the organ. Dixie was an avid gardener and loved animals. She was an active member of the Ashtabula Eagle’s club and had many friends there. She was preceded in death by her parents Betty and Wayne Harrison, her husband David Bateman Sr., her daughter Cheryl Bateman, a stepdaughter Mary Bateman, her son-in-law Steve Cherok, and a granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Cherok of Bradenton FL, her two granddaughters, that she raised, Chrischelle & Bret Wagner, and Natasha & Chris Hanna of Tionesta PA; her stepchildren, David Bateman Jr, Aleta & Terry Inman of Kingsville OH, Tom & Karri Bateman, Lynn & Lisa Bateman, of Conneaut OH, Dee & Frank Foy of Lenoir NC; Grandchildren, Amanda Britton, Kyle & Marrisa Foy, Brooke Bateman, Brittany Tronchin, Megan, Mathew, & Micheala Bateman, Bobbie Kudlock, Aleta Lamb; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and her three brothers Jerry & Rhonda, Walt, and John Harrison. Also surviving is Dixie’s significant other of the last 14 years Norman Walbridge and his daughter, Becky & Brian McCrone and their three children of Geneva OH. The family would like to especially thank Sharon and George Green and their children for the many years of friendship and care to Dixie as her neighbors, as well as Intrepid Home Health Care, Saybrook Landing, and Bella Care Hospice for their wonderful care of Dixie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dixie’s name to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League at acapl.org Private services were held at the convenience of the family.
