Obituary of Antoon Gevelaar, Sr

Antoon Gevelaar, Sr ASHTABULA- Antoon Gevelaar, Sr, 92 passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Lake West Hospital. Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on December 29, 1929, the son of Hendricius J. and Femmetji (Hendriksen) Gevelaar, Antoon emigrated to the United States in 1957. Antoon was the last surviving child of the family. September 12, 1959, Antoon and Patricia Williams were united in marriage and recently sixty years of marriage. Their marriage was one of mutual respect and love. The memories they shared are now treasures of the heart and will give Pat comfort and peace. Antoon had a tremendous work ethic, never one to be idle he worked at True Temper in tool and die, he also owned Dutch’s Landscaping. Some of his bigger clients were McDonald’s and Bank One. He also had many private accounts and enjoyed caring for their yards. He took pride in his work, and it showed. Antoon enjoyed sports as a young man he played soccer and football. Music was always one of his joys, especial Blues and Jazz; he also played trumpet. The family would enjoy camping every summer. After his retirement, Antoon would have his morning coffee with his fellow retiree’s at McDonalds. Antoon is survived by his wife, Patricia Gevelaar; children, Antoon Gevelaar, Jr and Angela(William) A. Johnson , Jr all of Ashtabula; grandchildren, William(Becky) A. Johnson, III and Jessica(Russell) Shaffer, Jr; great grandchildren, Tori Shaffer, Isadora Johnson and Nolan Johnson; many loving nieces and nephews. Antoon was preceded in death by his siblings, Johan Gevelaar, Hendricius Gevelaar, Jr, Annie Devink and Corniela Hogetoorn and his parents. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 12 Noon at Greenlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, North Kingsville, Ohio. Reverend Samuel Monte, Pastor of North Kingsville Presbyterian Church presiding. A calling hour will be observed from 11AM until time of service. If desired, contributions may be made to the family.
