Please share a memory of Phlenoid to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Phlenoid David Dismuke, Jr. was born July 27, 1971, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to the late Phlenoid David Dismuke, Sr, and Emma Lee Rucker Dismuke. Phlenoid, Jr., affectionately known as “Junior, JR, JayDee, June, June Bug,” softly and quietly crossed the threshold on June 11, 2022, as his spirit ascended to be with the GOD. He heard the Lord say, “Come unto me and rest.” Phlenoid, Jr. was a life-long resident of Ashtabula, Ohio. He graduated from Saint John (Catholic) School in Ashtabula, Ohio. He attended Kent State University (Class of 1997) upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. While at Kent State University and five other young men, Phlenoid, Jr. crossed the burning sands of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Gamma Tau Chapter. He was number three (#3) on his line and the Keeper of Records for the Gamma Tau Chapter. PHLENOID, JR. was also the founder of Imhotep, professional health and major science organization at Kent State University. Phlenoid, Jr. started his professional career with Cleveland Clinic and continued in the pharmaceutical industry at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD), Q2 Solutions, and Syneos Health. His career allowed him to travel the world; some assignments included Hawaii, London, and Peru, to name a few. He received numerous awards and promotions during his career. He was also an Adjunct Professor for the Allied Health Department at Brown Mackie College. Phlenoid, Jr. was steadfast in his faith and belief in God. He loved the Lord and received Christ at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Sam Wells, Jr at Peoples Baptist Church in Ashtabula, Ohio. He was very active in the church at a young age and continued his works as an adult as a member of Word of Faith Family Cathedral Church in Austell, GA, under the leadership of Bishop Dale C. Bronner. Phlenoid, Jr. was a Word of Faith Family Cathedral Church Mass Choir member. A talented man was Phlenoid, Jr. He had a melodious voice, a tenor with great range and reasonable control. He started singing as a little boy and would always woo the crowds at church and school. As an adult, he was a member of the “Smooth Approach” group and performed worldwide and in several states on many stages. His dance moves, stage presence, flashy jackets, and shiny shoes captivated all crowds. Smooth Approach released its first big hit, “Never Enough,” in 1996. They reunited after 20 years in 2021 with a new record release that has soared. The simple pleasures in life, such as fishing, traveling, singing, and spending time with family and friends, brought so much joy to Phlenoid, Jr. He could often be found fishing by a lake, in the river, or deep sea. He would bring home plenty of fish and enjoyed cleaning and filleting them. He was a true FISHERMAN and loved the annual fishing trips with his buddies. Bass Pro and Cabela’s were his favorite stores, so much so that he was employed there for eight years to share his passion for fishing and the outdoors. Phlenoid, Jr’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was an excellent and very supportive Father and one of the proudest Grandfathers you would ever want to know. He loved his family and friends dearly and would do whatever he could to help them anyway. He was a giver and would give his time, talent, and generosity to others. Phlenoid, Jr. loved to see others happy and enjoying life. While working at Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD), Phlenoid, Jr. met, dated, and married the love of his life, the former Sheniqua Williams. With this union, he gained two daughters who affectionately called him Pa. Phlenoid, Jr., and Sheniqua built their family home in Mableton, Georgia. He was very active in the Cobb County Community. Phlenoid, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents: Phlenoid Dismuke, Sr, who passed away in April 2011, and Emma Lee Rucker Dismuke, who passed away in February 2022.
