Erika E. Gallatin ASHTABULA- Erika Elaine Gallatin, 40, passed Wednesday, July 6, 2022, after a courageous battle with colon cancer while surrounded in love with her husband and sons. The daughter of Bruce Cassady and Judith(Navarro) Cassady, Erika was born on March 9, 1982, in Joliet, Illinois. She was a graduate of Geneva High School Class of 2000 and graduated from Kent State Ashtabula with a BSN. Erika Cassady and Edwin Gallatin were united in marriage on February 12, 2005. Although seventeen years is a short time to be married, they made the most of each day. Their zest for living and loving each other and their sons is to be emulated. These last years have shown true devotion, love and courage that was needed to sustain themselves and their family. Erika was the consummate nurse; prior to being employed with Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital she worked for Hospice of the Western Reserve and the Cleveland Clinic. Her dream job was to work in pediatrics, she lived her dream. She cared for each infant as if they were her children, she advocated for them and their parents, she would spend many days giving them the human touch which they needed to survive. No one was more excited than Erika when “her babies” went home with their parents. She would come home and share her joy with her family. No one was prouder of Erika than her family, she was a nurse’s nurse. To say Erika loved to travel would be an understatement, she was always ready to go on the next adventure with Ed, Ethan, and Liam. She traveled to Europe as a chaperone with Lakeside High School AP History Classes, she enjoyed watching students as they saw so many wonderful sights for the first time. Erika enjoyed working in her flower beds and vegetable gardens; sharing her love of the outdoors with her family and friends. The history and literature of the English Monarchy and other countries was particularly interesting to her. Reading was a pleasant pastime after long day at work. Erika’s passion was her family; she loved with abandon; her sons, Ethan and Liam were so very special in her life. She celebrated every milestone, reveling in the joy and consoling them in their disappointments. Erika will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mom, sister-in-law, and friend. When her name is spoken in days and weeks to come, her legacy will be remembered as one who put others needs before hers. Erika is survived by her husband, Edwin Gallatin; sons, Ethan and Liam; parents, Bruce(Tracy) Cassady, Judith (Navarro) Cassady; brother, Bruce Cassady, Jr; sisters-in-law, Shannon Gallatin, Christine (John) McNutt, Erin(Ronald)Luoma; nieces and nephews; and many friends. Erika was preceded in death by her in laws Edwin and Anna Gallatin. Her grandparents Bud and Janette Cassady and Joseph and Ida Navarro.
