Obituary of Richard Carlisle Rose

Richard C. Rose Conneaut- Richard Carlisle Rose, a member of America’s Greatest Generation passed away at the age 101 years , nine months and twenty-seven days. Dick fell short of 102nd birthday; he was looking forward to yet another birthday to celebrate with his beloved family. One of four sons Dick was born on September 24, 1920, in Ashtabula, the son of Edward P. and Dorothy T. (Smith) Rose. Dick and his family moved to East Cleveland where he was a graduate of Shaw High School class of 1937; receiving his BBA from Cleveland College of Western Reserve University and his Juris Doctor at WRU Law School. The Rose family were very active members of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of Ashtabula. He Dick served as Senior Warden, treasurer and is the Vice chairman for the Board of Supervisors of the St. Peter Foundation. December 29, 1940, Jean Coon and Richard Rose were united in marriage; for more than seventy-four years Jean and Richard have traveled life’s highway. Dick was attending Law school during their marriage when December 7, 1941, took place. Dick as well as many others felt it was his duty to defend his country. Prior to his graduation from Law School Dick entered ROTC at Northwestern University upon completion of his studies he was commissioned as an Ensign. Dick was stationed in Long Beach, California and also the South Pacific serving as the Commander of a P.T. Boat to aid in air-sea rescue. After his honorable discharge from the Navy January 1947, Dick returned to Law School graduating in June 1947and passing his Bar Exam. Dick enjoyed work as an attorney having his own practice for ten years before joining the corporate world of law. He was held in high esteem by his employers for knowledge of the law; while employed with True Temper he assisted with the merger joining forces with Allegheny Ludlum . Dick held the positions of Vice President, Corporate Secretary and Legal Counsel during his tenure with the company. Dick also believed in giving back to the community and served on many Boards of Trustees; locally he served Grand River Academy and Kingsville Board of Education. Dick’s interests and hobbies are many and varied; he is an avid golfer; receiving his private pilot’s license in 1940 for fixed wing and later gliders. He piloted aircraft into his late 80’s He was a world traveler and shared his love of traveling with his beloved Jean. Dick was the oldest living member and Past Master of Orion Lodge #353 of Kingsville and Knights Templar Commandry of Conneaut which is now Columbian Commandry. Dick had many notable achievements in his life; the achievement most special to him was his family. His love and devotion to his beloved wife, Jean and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was shown on a daily basis. His family was always uppermost in his thoughts and daily prayers. His pride in their accomplishments and triumphs was shared with his friends. Dick is survived by his sons; Theodore F. (Kathryn) Rose and Wendell A, (Joanne) Rose; and daughter-in-law, Karen Rose; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; loving nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his beloved Jean, June 15, 2015; three children, Deborah J. Rose, Ralph E. Rose, and Richard C. Rose, Jr.; daughter-in-law Mary Rose; his brothers and their wives, Edward and Mary Lou, William and Madge, Charles and Marilyn and his parents. Inurnment at Lulu Falls Cemetery, 5829 Cemetery Rd, Kingsville, OH 44048. Military Honors provided by Neal Post #743 .
