Obituary of Richard and Mary Shank

Richard Lee Shank, 81, passed away on May 15, 2022, after fighting a heroic battle from Mesothelioma. Richard was born to Keith and Mildred (Welton) Shank. Richard attended Ashtabula High School and completed high school in the Navy. Richard served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honorably discharged in 1963. Richard married the love of his life Mary Emma Scott, May 25, 1962. Richard retired from Union Carbide, Linde Wire division. Richard loved to restore cars and had belong to many of the Ashtabula County antique car clubs. One of his favorite runs was to Gettysburg. Richard was a hard working dedicated brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Richard joins his parents, Keith and Mildred, his sister Kaylynn, and his son Brian Lee Shank. Richard is survived by his siblings Donna Maki, Keith and Maynard (Geri) Shank; and his and Mary's lifelong friend Diane Solembrino. Mary Emma (Scott) Shank, 80, passed July 26, 2022. Mary was a three- time cancer survivor and quietly passed of natural causes. Mary was the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Frampton) Scott. Mary graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1959. She married the love of her Richard Shank May 24, 1962. Mary worked as a breakfast manager for many years at the Smith's Saybrook McDonalds. Mary was a devoted to her family and loved being married to Richard Shank. Mary was blessed to see her grandchildren marry and have families that Mary and Richard were close to. Mary joins her parents Walter and Margaret (Frampton)Scott, her sister Carol Loudermilk and her son Brian Lee Shank. Mary is survived by her many lifelong friends and was blessed to have her friend Diane Solembrino with her at the end of her life. Together, Richard and Mary are survived by their daughter Marge (Eric) Toivola; grandchildren, Tawnya (Andy) Housel, Theresa (Andy) Clutter, Sarah Toivola (Alfredo Rojas), Leah (Tom) Torrance, and Brian (Jessica) Shank; great-grandchildren, Antonio Rojas, Rayna Torrance, Erica Housel, Jelena Torrance, Chase Clutter, Gianni Rojas, Kayden Torrance, Miabella Rojas and Penelope Shank; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 4, 2022 from 1-3 pm at the East Ashtabula Club's pavilion. Memorial suggestions, Hospice of Western Reserve, Ashtabula Educational Service Center/Building Bridges/Happy Hearts clothing and shoe locker.
