Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Edwards (nee Corlew), age 102, passed away August 3, 2022, at her home where she resided for 75 years. She was born on June 6, 1920, in River Bend, CO to John and Blanche Corlew. At the age of 5, she and her family traveled in a Model T Ford across the country and settled in Austinburg (where her grandparents resided). This is where she spent her years growing up. Dorothy married Walter Edwards in 1940, at her parent's home and at the time of his passing, they had shared 70 years of marriage together. Dorothy worked at Carlisle-Allen for over 30 years in the credit department and later 5th floor office. She belonged to the Emblem Club, The Ashtabula Jaycees, Child Guidance, and the bowling league for Carlisle's. Dorothy and her husband, Walter, loved to dance. Every Saturday night they would travel with their friends to go dancing. If there were no dances to be found, they would have their own dances in their rec room or at one of the many neighbors. Anyone that knew Dorothy, knew she always had a story to tell about her adventures. Whether it was about her family, growing up in Austinburg, her travels across the US while her husband was in the Army, various family vacations or her everyday life; she would make you laugh with her adventures. She loved all types of animals and watched Jack Hannah and Safari Shows. She also loved her flowers and plants and couldn't get enough of them. Along with tending to her gardens, one could always find her mowing her yard. In her later years, every Saturday night at 7PM, she'd be watching "The Lawrence Welk Show", and she did that until she passed. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; parents, John and Blanche Corlew; in-laws, Arthur and Francis Edwards; brother, Ivan (Eva) Corlew; sisters, Julia Mae (Tom) Vene, Medora (Frank) Sespico, Florice (Leonard) Reuschling, Mary Etta (Harold) Montgomery; grandson, Matthew Erickson. She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Paul) Erickson, Debbie (Bob) Clark, Gayle (Ray Sintic) Shumate; grandchildren, Michele (Debbie) Erickson and Christopher (Karen) Erickson; step-grandchildren, Robin (Ty) Dory and Stacey Clark; great-grandchildren, Zachariah, Joseph, Esther, David, Abigail, Daniel, and Gloria Erickson; step-great grandchildren, Ellcey Clark and Magnolia Roth and many nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received from 2PM to 3:30PM on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula; immediately followed by a short memorial service from 3:30PM to 4PM. Continuing the celebration of Dorothy's life well lived, there will be a private burial at Saybrook Cemetery at a later date.
