Obituary of William Bening Dunne

William Bening Dunne, 63, of North Kingsville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 8, 2022, after a year long battle with lung cancer. He was born November 27, 1958, in Ashtabula, Ohio the son of the late Robert and Nancy (Bening) Dunne. A lifelong area resident, William graduated from Edgewood High School Class of 1977. He then went on to earn a bachelor's degree in accounting from Ohio Northern. He married his beloved wife, Rebecca Corlew, on August 3, 1985. Bill was the General Manager of Dunne Plastics in Ashtabula for over 30 years. He then went on to work for Ashtabula Area City Schools as the online education coordinator for the Great Lakes Online Academy in 2017. He owned and operated Advanced Learning Systems, computer training, and tutoring business. Bill also installed Apple computers in schools when they were first introduced. Mr. Dunne served on the Buckeye Board of Education, was inducted into the Edgewood Hall of Fame, and served as the Vice President of the Alumni Association. He also served on the Ashtabula County District Library Board. He was a proud Eagle Scout, and later went on to serve on the board of Greater Western Reserve Council of Boy scouts for over 25 years. He was vice president of program and council commissioner. He was a Silver Beaver recipient, which is the highest adult award for local boy scout councils. He helped with summer camps and was the district chairman for the Grand River District of Boy Scouts of America. Bill also served as an elder at the Presbyterian Church, in North Kingsville, where he also taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Bill had a love for the outdoors and nature. On a nice day, he could be found taking long rides in his Corvette, kayaking, looking for eagles, walking, or riding his bike. Mr. Dunne is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rebecca; daughter, Brittany Dunne of Mentor; sister, Leslie (Rick) Skidmore of Ashtabula; brothers, Robert (Cyndy) Dunne of Florida, and Bryan (Kristan) Dunne of Florida; brother-in-law, Jay (Annie) Corlew of Geneva; mother-in-law, Sonja Corlew of Ashtabula; nieces and nephews, John, Amanda, Justin, Steven (Jenna), Taylor, Meghan (Ryan), Kylee, Emily, and Jason. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Gerald Corlew; and his beloved black lab, Maggie. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022, from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 11AM at Bethany Lutheran Church, 933 Michigan Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. Inurnment will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, N. Kingsville. A celebration of Life luncheon will be held at Andrus Party Center, 2259 West Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004 on Saturday following services beginning at 2:00PM.
