Obituary of Catherine J. "Cathy" Mixer

Saybrook Twp.- Catherine “Cathy” J. Mixer, 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Saybrook Landing, where so had been a resident for the last month. She was born on April 25, 1950 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Leland and Geneva (nee: Mead) Goodiel. Cathy was a 1968 graduate of Ashtabula High School. She married the late, Duane E. Mixer on June 18, 1968. Together they raised a loving family of three daughters, Dawn, Cindy and Michelle. Cathy resided most of her life in the area, as well as time in Port Orange, Florida with her daughter and Alabama with her sisters. She loved crafts, especially crocheting. Cathy also enjoyed reading, including books written by V.C. Andrews. You could find her playing on her tablet or at the Ashtabula Moose Lodge or Progress Center playing Bingo. Cathy is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Kevin Kettlewood) Benson, Cindy (Randy Leszek) Peggs, and Michelle (Tiras) Chatman; grandchildren, Matthew Steiner, Michael Pendergast, Trey Good, Alexandria Steiner, Leigha Benson, Jaquan Pollard, Terry Benson, III, and TJ Chatman; five great-granddaughters, Marleigh, Kyla, Raelyn, Ryla, and Emirah; and her siblings, Judy Parker, Larry (Eileen) Goodiel, David Goodiel, and Cheryl (Tommy) Marrison. She was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved husband, Duane E. Mixer in 2001. Friends and family may gather on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 6PM to 8PM at Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11:00AM at Saybrook Cemetery. A celebration of life gathering will be held immediately following at Willow Brook Senior Housing Community Room, 2605 N. Bend Rd., Ashtabula.
