Deepest sympathy to Chet’s family. He was indeed a very special person with a marvelous personality and
unforgettable laugh.
As a high school classmate, Chet was the big brother I never had , even willing to take me to a dance when I didn’t have a date. He shined up his red ford convertible and with a smile rescued me.
The obituary speaks of his dedication to the Marine Corp whose Semper Fi, always faithful motto, very aptly describes him as a caring and loyal friend, husband and father. May he rest in peace. I will be at Mass in Pittsburgh to honor his memory.

The first thing we noticed about Chet was his big personality.
Let’s start by remembering his laugh. We always knew where Chet was when we arrived at the Saybrook Beach Club.
We only had to pause at the club and listen for his loud, contagious laugh. The laugh was always followed with him saying " Need help?" And he always did. We will miss Chet very much, but know his spirit will be always keeping an eye on SBC. Pat & Gerry Post

Chet, you will be missed by all. Your wit and generosity made you a special person. Spending time with you was always fun, especially at football games and camp in Canada. May all our memories of you be forever.

We will always remember Chet as the person who would do anything for you and his big smile. We spent the summers on Lake Erie with Chet and Roxene. We remember when Chet and Ernie went to buy a grill! It turned into a hilarious adventure.
It was an honor to know Chet and we will keep the family in our prayers.

Chet was my brother, my friend and companion. Months would pass before we saw each other but when our relationship continued it was as if no time had passed. Chet was my Movie and TV buddy, and you could hear us laughing throughout the complex. I think it was each of us laughing at the others laugh that made things a little funnier than they really were. Chet was nice to everyone even when they weren’t nice back. He was always respectful and said hello to any person whose path intersected with his. He would help anyone with most anything all they had to do was ask.
Chet could fix anything. In his later years he worked as a Handyman. He was a perfectionist on any job he took. His prices were often too reasonable but there was “Chet Time”. “Chet Time” meant that he would start work when he wants, work when he wants, and finish when he wants. The quality of his work was such that you didn’t mind “Chet Time”.
Chet made my life interesting like the time he sank my brand-new Jeep two feet in the mud out at the property. We were trying to pull a burned-out car frame out of a hole while in a rainstorm. Instead, we ended up in the hole. There was no sense in calling a tow truck because thanks to the rain it was two muddy to pull anything. I forgot my phone so I suggested Chet call Karen and Roxene to get us, and we would call a Tow Truck in the morning. Chet reminded me that the previous night both wives had told us not to attempt to do what we did because the ground was too soft after all the rain over the last few days. I didn’t mind “eating crow” but Chet was not like minded so the two of us dug for over three hours and finally drove the Jeep out of the hole.
Karen and I have so many fond memories of Chet and Roxene. When at the Lake we where inseparable always doing things together. Most nights Chet fired up the grill cooked burgers and the four of us would just sit together for hours. Chet and I shared a Bro’s romance and often shared the word love with each other. I will miss him so much! Ernie Gilchrist

We will always remember Chet's smile and laughter and the way he lit up a room. He was kind and generous (always sharing his homemade wine!) and we truly enjoyed his company. We have so many wonderful memories of our time at Lake Erie and Chet and Roxanne are a big part of them. We considered Chet and Roxanne as part of our family and we are grateful to have known Chet for as along as we did. Chet will be missed greatly and we are sending our love to his family and friend.
Love,
Chad, Megan, Bodie, Sloane & Colton

Q: What will you never forget about Chester?
A: Chet will always be remembered by our family for his contagious smile and welcoming nature. He would do anything for anyone at any moment! Our kids always considered Roxene and Chet as part of our family whenever we would vacation at Lake Erie each summer. He and Grandpa Gilchrist were the dynamic duo- grilling together, watching movies together, and filling up a room with their hearty laughter. Heaven has gained a good guy…you will be missed Chet. To Roxene and family, we are thinking of you and wrapping you in hugs from afar.
Much love,
Ben, Gina, Jack, Peyton, and Lexi Gilchrist
