Obituary of Vaughn L. Richmond, Sr.

Ashtabula- Vaughn L Richmond, Sr. Age 83, of Lake Road West, passed away on Friday March 31st of 2023, peacefully with his loving family surrounding him. He was born on January 7th, 1940, the son of Beatrice English and Frederick Richmond and raised by Vance and Nellie Reed all of Ashtabula, Ohio. Vaughn graduated from Ashtabula High School,class of 1959 and joined the Great Lakes District to become a Merchant Seaman. Towards the end of his tour on the ore boat, he was asked to join an All-Star football team to partake in a special game of the elite players from around the county, where he earned a trophy for MV running back. Vaughn was also a Veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1965, where he continued to serve in the Army Reserves ending honorably in May of 1969. Married to the late Novilla (Lee) Frye, in 1966, they raised six children together. Vaughn worked at the RMI Metals Plant (before shutting down) for over 30 years on the paint crew. Thereafter, driving for Knehenrither Trucking Company, hauling mail from Cleveland to Chicago, until his retirement. Vaughn was an avid fisherman who enjoyed being on Lake Erie in his boat, either alone or with his son Vaughn Jr. "Richie". Watching football being a diehard Browns fan, camping with his family for most of their childhood. Vaughn got his most pleasure from being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children, Sandra (Eric) Luce of Ashtabula, Robin Sprague of Saginaw Michigan, Scott Hare of Cleveland Heights, Leesa (Wilson) Lopez of Ashtabula and Vaughn L. Richmond Jr. of Ashtabula; Grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Luce, Sheena (Carl Khlem) Luce, Stephanie Slusher, Jenna (Rob) Bernardo, Trent Richmond, and Leah Richmond; Great Grandchildren, Audrey, Emma, Hannah, Gaige, RJ, and Evelyn. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Novilla; Son, Douglas Hare; Son-in-law, Scott Sprague; his parents; and all of his siblings. The family would like to give special thanks to the Hospice of the Western Reserve Ashtabula Chapter team, Carole, Heidi, Amy, and Patty, we could not have done any of this without you. You are true angels that walk among us. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the Greenlawn Memory Gardens Chapel at 11:00 AM.
