Obituary of Leonardo R. Covert

Please share a memory of Leonardo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leonardo Raphael Covert also known as “Leo”, 11 months, passed away on April 3, 2023 at Cleveland Clinic. He was born at Cleveland Clinic on May 2, 2022, the fifth son of Steven Eugene and Cassandra Rose Covert. He lived his life surrounded by loved ones and staff at Cleveland Clinic who became like family. Leo battled many health problems being born with congenital heart defect hypoplastic left heart syndrome. These problems though never prevented him from enjoying life to the fullest and deeply touching and impacting all those he encountered. He loved to blow kisses and always lit up whenever he heard his mom and dad’s voices. He treasured his stuffed animals and enjoyed his favorite show, Bluey, even though his big brother insisted his favorite color was orange! His family enjoyed every moment they could with him including their visit with Mickey Mouse. He passed peacefully in his parents arms after a battle with liver cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Steve and Cassandra Covert; four brothers, Michael, Gabriel, Nathaniel, and Zachariel; his maternal grandparents Justine and Mark Harrison, and Mark and Jennifer Louden; paternal grandparents, Michele DeForrest and Robert G. Covert; great grandparents, Rose (Merlene) Fenner, Nancy and Russ Louden, and Ruth and Chuck Jones; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by great-grandfathers Dan C. Fenner., Robert G. Covert Sr., Howard Eugene Deforrest, and great-grandmother Dorothy (Hall) Covert. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 from 1pm to 3pm at Jefferson Church of the Nazarene, 55 E. Satin St., Jefferson, Ohio with a service to follow at 3pm. Pastor Pat Fleming from Operation Heal Our Patriots will officiate. Contributions may be made to the family which will be used to establish a foundation in Leo’s memory to provide a grant each year to families whose child is afflicted with the same condition he had. They are also planning a bigger project as Leo’s Legacy. Family request that Red or Blue be worn to Leo’s calling hours/funeral in honor of Congenital Heart Defects, and to celebrate his battle he fought so hard. We would like to thank caregivers at Cleveland Clinic who have taken care of Leo in the last 11 months, and all those who have supported us along the way.
