Obituary of Leo J. Marchand

Leo J. Marchand, 89, passed away on April 28, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 16, 1933, in Rudyard, Michigan to Homer and Pauline (Knauf) Marchand. After graduating from Sault Ste Marie High School, he joined the United States Army as a paratrooper, jumping in Greenland and the Panama Canal. Leo sailed the Great Lakes from the Soo to the Harbor. After sustaining an injury, he met his wife, Carole while he was being x-rayed. He worked at Electromet for several years before going to work for East Ohio Gas Company for thirty-two years, retiring in 1991. Leo enjoyed snowmobiling, four wheeling, going to Michigan and Canada with friends, and meeting at the “barn”. He is survived by his wife, of 65 years, Carole (Levine) Marchand of Ashtabula; his children, Sharon Mead of Jefferson, Terri (Dan Falke) Crandall of Ashtabula, and Joe (Stacey) Marchand of Mentor on the Lake; his sisters, Janette Dolezel of Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, and Joan (Jack) Kanitz of Milan, Michigan; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Mike) Blenman of Kingsville ,Kyle (Ashley) Van Gilder of Lafayette, Indiana, Julie, Kevin, and Brian Mead, all of Jefferson, Stacy (Jacob) Mate of Orwell, and Austin Marchand of Mentor; and his great grandchildren,Tyler, Makayla, Karston, Hayden, Olivia, Ellie, and Lilly. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at American Legion Post #103, 1804 Carpenter Road, Ashtabula at 2:00 PM.
