Please share a memory of Beatrice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ashtabula- Beatrice Ann Savarise, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born on October 27, 1934 in New Baltimore, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Liguori and Mary Grace (nee: Hickey) Callahan. Beatrice graduated from Berlin-Brothersvalley High School Class of 1952. She married the love of her life, Philip M. Savarise, Jr., on August 31, 1957. After starting their family in Cleveland, they moved to Ashtabula where Beatrice loved her career with Ashtabula City Schools. She was the secretary to the principal at Washington Elementary and West Junior High Schools. She was dedicated to helping every student and treated each one with love and respect. No child that didn’t have lunch or lunch money ever went without, if she knew about it. Colleagues called her a guiding hand for students of all backgrounds. While employed with AACS, she was the union negotiator for AACSE/OAPSE/OEA, and was proud of her accomplishments and many of the benefits staff receive now, such as health care, were fought for while she served on the negotiation team. Beatrice was devoted catholic and was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also active with the Ashtabula Elks Lodge #208 and enjoyed socializing at the club with her late husband, Philip. Beatrice was also committed to social justice and worked alongside colleagues supporting the local NAACP chapter. She loved the game of baseball and was always happy when she could watch the Pirates or White Sox. She was also an avid reader, enjoyed sitting outdoors on her porch and enjoyed nature. Beatrice’s greatest love was her family, and especially enjoyed going back home to her roots in southwest Pennsylvania, and would recall those as the best of times. She is survived by her children, Terry (Tara) Savarise, Michele Savarise, Phil “Flip” Savarise, Stephanie Howe, and Joseph (Stacey) Savarise; and her dear grandchildren, Katie and Jon. Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents; dear husband, Philip Savarise, Jr.; sister, Jacqueline M. Davis; and her beloved English Springer Spaniel, Cookie. A calling hour will be held, Monday, May 22, 2023 from 10:00AM-11:00AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3312 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00AM.
