HERMITAGE, PA - David Wayne Asuma, 58, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 10, 1965 in Ashtabula, the son of the late Wayne Asuma, Jr. and Maxine (George) Asuma. A 1983 graduate of Edgewood High School, he was an avid sports fan and lifelong Cleveland fan who could quote any stats you asked him for. He had a thirst for knowledge of things that interested him. Some of his many interests besides sports were Greek mythology, most genres of music, and sharks - especially when “Jaws” came out. His intellect was diverse and impressive. Despite a lifelong struggle with addiction, David always sought a career dedicated to helping others, especially those who also struggled with addiction. His most recent employment was Maria’s House, a men’s addiction recovery and working farm. David had a very loving, caring heart but it was sometimes difficult for him to show due to his anxiety. David was also very stubborn and could rarely be swayed to change his mind. He is survived by his sisters, Pamela (Paul) Cianci and Lori (Ron Blair) Berman; nine nieces and nephews, Jimmy Ross, Jared Ross, Laura (Dave) Weatherholt, Nicole Cianci, Chelsie (Nate) Ditz, Linnea (Jared) Anthony, Daniel (Jamie) Berman, Dillon Berman, and Hannah Berman; and many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Asuma, Jr.; his mother, Maxine Grippi; and his nephew, Houston Berman. David requested no services be held but a Celebration of Life will be planned by the family at a later time. Contributions in his memory may be made to Maria’s House, 630 Hyde Rd, Spartansburg PA 16434. Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula is handling arrangements.
