Obituary of Betty L. Hornyak

Ashtabula- Betty L. Hornyak, 87, passed away peacefully at Cardinal Woods Nursing Home on May 26, 2023, surrounded by family. Betty was born on September 11, 1935, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Charles and Edith (nee: Miller) Loftus. She was a 1953 graduate of Ashtabula High School. Betty married the love of her life, John S. Hornyak on February 7, 1954, in Hagerstown, Maryland after his honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps. She was a 32-year employee of the Ohio Bureau of Employment Office. Betty will be remembered for being a quiet lady, that enjoyed baking, making wedding cakes, playing cards and watching game shows. Betty will be missed by her children, David (Dawnetta) Hornyak, Barbara (Frank) Ellsworth, Patrick Hornyak and Thomas (Marien) Hornyak; grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel, Ashleigh, Sara, Clara and Niel; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband John Hornyak; dear son, Michael, and his wife Dorothy Hornyak; and her sisters, Ida Mae Carroll, Patsy Cureton, Peggy Booth and Linda Salanci. In keeping with her wishes, her body was donated to Case Western Reserve Anatomical Program to help further medical research. No public services will be observed.
