“ An angel got his wings but we'll hold our heads up knowing that he's fine.
We'd all be lucky to have a love like that in a lifetime. In life and death, you've always stolen our hearts.
You've always meant so much to me, it's hard to believe this “
To my “funcle”,
Your laugh is part of the soundtrack to so many of my earliest childhood memories. From your constant jokes to teaching me how to (poorly) ride the go cart at grandpas, to catching big fat belly toads at the cottage, letting me cart your babies around like dolls, coming for weekends at your house, and taking me to Kmart for my birthday and buying me the Barbie baby crib my mom specifically told you I was not allowed to have. I’ll never forget those memories with you just like I’ll never forget how riding on your shoulders felt like being at the top of the world. You have been missed for so long, but now that you’re gone, your absence in our world is truly palpable . You will always be loved, you will always be missed, and you will always be my favorite uncle. Until we meet again…
Love Always,
Katester

To my “big” little brother,
At 10:25 am on 1/1/23 I held your hand as you took your final breath. 47 years could never be long enough to have you as a brother. I miss you already, but if I’m being honest, I’ve been missing you since 2009. I’m sorry that you’ve had to live the past 14 years the way that you did.
Caring for you in your final days has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done. And also the most rewarding. Taking care of you will always be a precious memory to me. You fought so hard for so long, and you didn’t deserve any of it. I hope you felt our love surrounding you in your final breaths. Your last few weeks with us were both sad and sweet. You knew you were leaving us. But you also showed so much love. I will never forget a single moment of your life Jeremy. I love you so much. You have been the best brother in the entire existence of the universe.
Love,
Your “little” big sister

I've been struggling to find the right words, the perfect memory, the right goodbye. But there are no words. There are too many memories to choose from. And there is no goodbye that will ever feel right. You were a wonderful big brother. You fought harder in life than anyone should ever have to, and you will always be my "Tough Guy." Sometimes it takes more strength to let go than it takes to hold on. Until we meet again, Sing for us!
The Gambler - Kenny Rogers 1978
On a warm summer's eve on a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler, we were both too tired to sleep
So we took turns a starin' out the window at the darkness
'Til boredom overtook us and he began to speak
He said, "Son, I've made a life, out of readin' people's faces
And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey I'll give you some advice"
So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet and his face lost all expression
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy, you gotta learn to play it right"
You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away and know when to run
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealing's done
Every gambler knows that the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away and knowing what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner and every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep
And when he finished speakin', he turned back towards the window
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep
You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away and know when to run
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealing's done

To the Barris Family, may you feel the love of God as he wraps his arms around each one of you. As you set and dream of the past may you smile knowing that the memories you made are yours to keep.
